On Monday, April 7, 2025, the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, accompanied by his wife, First Lady Denise Nyakeru, visited the Vijana Health Center located in the Lingwala district of Kinshasa. At the site, the presidential couple met with around twenty injured individuals who had been brought in under critical conditions following the floods that caused significant material damage and casualties. The visit included comforting words from the Head of State, who praised the resilience of the victims and the dedication of the medical staff. The patients, now out of danger, are being cared for thanks to the swift mobilization of medical teams.
This visit also sends a strong message about the closeness between the authorities and the people. President Félix Tshisekedi emphasized the need to strengthen the city’s drainage infrastructure, while also promising support for the affected families. He also commended the coordination of emergency services, which helped prevent a higher death toll.
