Under the leadership of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the Council of Ministers held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, was the stage for major decisions, reflecting a clear intent to structurally transform Burkina Faso.
At the end of this session, the government spokesperson, Minister Gilbert Ouédraogo, outlined several significant developments. Among them was a draft law on fertilizer regulation, adopted to strengthen the fight against fraud and improve the quality of agricultural inputs. From now on, the Burkinabè Company for Agricultural and Livestock Equipment and Inputs (SOBIMAP) will be the exclusive supplier of fertilizers— a key measure to bring order to this strategic sector.
Toward Industrialization of the Meat Sector
Another major initiative was the creation of the Faso Abattoir Agency, decided by the Council with the aim of professionalizing the meat industry. This national agency will be responsible for modernizing slaughterhouse infrastructure, centralizing abattoir management, and developing a complete logistics chain. By shifting toward exporting processed meat instead of live animals, the government aims to add greater value to local resources, generate more revenue, and create sustainable jobs nationwide.
Faso Yaar: Ensuring Access to Basic Necessities
In a context marked by high living costs and price instability, the Council of Ministers approved the creation of Faso Yaar, a state-owned company tasked with the supply and distribution of essential consumer goods. With a capital of 2 billion CFA francs, the company aims to streamline distribution networks and ensure the constant availability of essential products for the population. Additionally, the government also approved a subsidy of 5 billion CFA francs for cotton producers to support the 2025–2026 campaign and boost this key agricultural sector for the national economy.
Momentum for Health and Strategic Infrastructure
In terms of infrastructure, the authorities made a decisive move by adopting a decree declaring the area designated for the future multimodal dry port of Ouagadougou as of urgent public interest. This project is expected to mobilize over 150 billion CFA francs. Finally, in the healthcare sector, the creation of the University Hospital Center of Pala in Bobo-Dioulasso was confirmed. Resulting from a model partnership with China, this 500-bed hospital will strengthen healthcare services in the Hauts-Bassins region, in line with the presidential vision of a better-equipped, more self-reliant, and forward-looking Burkina Faso.
