Mali takes Bold step toward gender inclusion in mining sector under President Goïta’s leadership

Under the leadership of Transition President Colonel Assimi Goïta, Mali has reached a new milestone in its inclusion policies with the launch of « Mentorat-Mines »—a groundbreaking initiative designed to boost women’s participation in the strategic mining sector. This program reflects a clear commitment to addressing the structural imbalances that have long held back women’s professional growth in this vital industry.
Mali’s mining sector is a key driver of economic growth, contributing significantly to GDP, export revenues, and job creation. Yet, women remain severely underrepresented in technical and leadership roles. The « Mentorat-Mines » initiative aims to change that by focusing on mentorship, skills development, and professional networking for women in mining.
The innovative program pairs experienced female professionals with young graduates and early-career women, providing guidance to ease their entry into the field, build confidence, and break down cultural barriers and stereotypes that limit their advancement in STEM and industrial careers.
With « Mentorat-Mines, » Mali reaffirms its dedication to an equitable and inclusive transition—one where women are no longer sidelined but play a central role in national development.
This move aligns with President Assimi Goïta’s vision of building a sovereign, resilient, and fair Mali—one that harnesses the full potential of all its citizens.
