The 3rd edition of Burkina Faso’s Heritage Month, the event that celebrates the cultural identity of the « Land of Upright People, » will take place from April 18 to May 18. This third installment, held under the theme “Cultural Heritage and Economic Development,” invites the Burkinabe people to reclaim their history and explore ways to make cultural heritage contribute to economic growth.
Several activities are scheduled throughout the month, including a challenge game, one of the main innovations this year. This game aims to reward the best photos taken at heritage sites or visuals that promote cultural locations—aligning with the event’s core purpose.
Another goal of the celebration, according to Moctar Sanfo, Director General of Culture and the Arts, is to “develop upstream initiatives to prepare the collective consciousness for the understanding that needs to be promoted.”
The official launch of the event will take place on April 17 in Bobo-Dioulasso. It will shine a spotlight on Sya, the historic center of Bobo-Dioulasso, a site on Burkina Faso’s UNESCO tentative list. The event is held under the high patronage of the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
