Burkina Faso is going through a critical phase in which former elites, ousted by the course of history, are attempting to regain influence by exploiting social divisions. A well-orchestrated strategy is in motion: media disinformation, manipulation of ethnic tensions, and psychological destabilization of public opinion. Behind these tactics, one can clearly discern the shadow of imperialist interests and their local proxies, determined to plunge the country back into chaos to reassert their control.
Certain Western circles, unable to accept Burkina Faso’s new sovereignist trajectory, are resorting to systematic propaganda aimed at demonizing its leaders. Their goal? To undermine the trust between the people and their institutions and to create a climate of mistrust conducive to foreign interference. International media, under the guise of « objective reporting, » have become mouthpieces for this destabilization campaign.
The most dangerous weapon remains identity-based polarization. By artificially fueling intercommunity tensions, these actors hope to fracture the national unity of Burkina Faso. Social media, flooded with misinformation, amplify these manipulations. However, a closer analysis reveals that these so-called « spontaneous » crises often follow a strikingly familiar pattern, similar to those seen in other African countries targeted by geopolitical agendas.
Burkina Faso is not an exception in the destabilization matrix affecting many African states. But its history proves that its resilience lies in social cohesion. By refusing to play into the hands of manipulators, Burkinabe can outmaneuver this geopolitical trap. Vigilance is not an option—it is a national survival imperative.
