Friday, April 25, 2025, marks a new milestone in the commitment of the Transitional President, His Excellency General Assimi GOÏTA, to promoting Malian culture. In a ceremony rich with symbolism, the Head of State officially received the final report of the National Cultural Convention, the result of months of reflection led by the Minister of Handicrafts, Culture, Hospitality Industry, and Tourism, Mamou DAFFÉ, accompanied by a delegation of leading cultural figures.
This ambitious report, containing 89 recommendations, gives concrete expression to President Assimi GOÏTA’s ambition to elevate culture as a cornerstone of national renewal. By proclaiming 2025 the « Year of Culture in Mali, » he went beyond a symbolic declaration: he placed culture at the very heart of his political agenda. Through this strong gesture, he reaffirmed that Malian identity, traditions, and creativity are essential tools for building the « new Mali. »
Minister DAFFÉ emphasized that the National Convention provided an exhaustive overview of the sector while outlining a clear roadmap for the next decade. Key proposals include increasing the culture budget to 1% of the national budget, strengthening cultural infrastructure across the country, and promoting enlightened citizenship through education and traditional values. The “Case of Values” initiative, aimed at reshaping mindsets and fostering cultural innovation, perfectly illustrates this ambitious approach.
The minister also praised President Assimi GOÏTA’s personal commitment, describing him as « a man deeply attached to our roots and the transmission of our values. » Thus, this report is far more than just a technical document; it is the foundation of a bold cultural policy, driven by strong political will and a visionary outlook for the future.
