Togo/ Fire at MIATO: Site temporarily closed, scheduled to reopen tomorrow

On Wednesday, April 30, the doors of MIATO remain closed. This emergency decision came after a restless night at the site of the Togo International Handicrafts Market, following a fire that broke out in one of the exhibition areas, leading to a temporary interruption of the event.

Although the fire was quickly brought under control thanks to the swift intervention of emergency services, the organizers opted for caution. A thorough technical inspection is currently underway to assess the extent of the damage and ensure the safety of both exhibitors and visitors. An investigation has also been launched to determine the exact cause of the incident.

Despite the setback, the atmosphere remains optimistic. The organizing committee has assured that everything is being done to reopen the site as early as the next day, Thursday, May 1, starting at 9 a.m. Preparations are actively ongoing behind the scenes, with full team mobilization.

It is worth noting that the 2025 edition of MIATO, which was recently inaugurated with great fanfare by the Prime Minister, will continue until May 4. This key event in Togolese craftsmanship still aims to deliver on all its promises, despite this unexpected disruption.
