Burkina Faso: 11th International Ecological Congress in Russia, a strategic participation for the future of the environment

Burkina Faso is participating in the 11th NEVSKI International Environmental Congress in Russia, a major global gathering focused on climate and environmental challenges. Organized by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, this year’s congress is being held under the theme: « Planet Earth: Living in Harmony with Nature. »
Led by the Minister of Environment, Water, and Sanitation, Roger BARO, the Burkinabe delegation is taking part in two days of discussions on key topics, including biodiversity, food security in the face of climate change, low-carbon solutions for a green economy, ecotourism, sustainable use of subsoil resources, and public policies supporting green projects.
For Minister Roger BARO, the conference is a unique opportunity to amplify Burkina Faso’s voice, share innovative experiences, and strengthen both bilateral and multilateral environmental cooperation. He emphasized that Burkina Faso is a committed player, having signed several international climate agreements and currently implementing concrete reforms.
Ongoing initiatives include urban reforestation projects launched in major cities since 2024, the planned creation of 45 medicinal plant groves by 2025, the drafting of a carbon credit bill, and the recent adoption of a law banning non-biodegradable plastic packaging.
Burkina Faso’s participation also aims to benefit from Russia’s experience in sustainable natural resource management and to lay the foundation for a structured partnership with the Russian Federation. According to Minister BARO, the current environmental challenges demand collaborative and innovative solutions supported by strong international cooperation.
