DRC: Évariste Ndayishimiye in Kinshasa, a shared desire to strengthen coordination for regional stability

As part of the consultations leading up to the 12th Summit of the Regional Oversight Mechanism (ROM) of the Peace, Security, and Cooperation Framework for the Democratic Republic of Congo and the region, President Évariste Ndayishimiye paid a visit to Kinshasa, where he met with his Congolese counterpart, Félix Tshisekedi.

This visit by Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye to Kinshasa reflects a shared commitment to strengthening coordination in support of peace in the Great Lakes region. His strategic meeting with Félix Tshisekedi is part of an ongoing diplomatic dialogue aimed at fostering regional stability.

At the heart of their discussions was the evaluation of the Addis Ababa Framework Agreement, a cornerstone of regional efforts toward security and development. As Burundi prepares to hand over the chairmanship of the ROM, the meeting highlights the importance placed on ensuring continuity and the effective functioning of this regional platform.

Kinshasa and Bujumbura, connected by a shared border and converging security interests, are intensifying their bilateral exchanges. This political closeness, reinforced by the strong personal relationship between the two heads of state, serves as a valuable lever for promoting sub-regional stability.
