Sport/ Champions League: PSG eliminated in semi-final by Dortmund; Mbappé feels he wasn’t “good enough”

PSG suffers another defeat in the Champions League. The Parisian club was eliminated in the semi-finals by Borussia Dortmund, who beat them in both legs, with an aggregate score of 2-0.

During the second leg played on Tuesday, May 7th, Dortmund secured their ticket to the final with a goal from Mats Hummels, after the German team had won the first leg on Wednesday, May 1st, thanks to Niclas Fullkrug’s goal after 36 minutes of play.

In the 1-0 defeat in the return leg at the Parc des Princes, the Parisian team had 30 shots on goal compared to seven for the visitors, with a ball possession of 70%, and hit the post six times. In an interview after the match, Kylian Mbappé seems to take responsibility for his team’s elimination. The French international feels he was not decisive in the game.

« I tried to help my team as best as I could but I didn’t do enough. When we talk about efficiency in the penalty area, I think I am the one being targeted. It’s up to me to score goals and be decisive. When everything is going well, I’m the one in the spotlight and when it’s not, you’re in the shadow. It’s not a problem. The first one who should have scored tonight is me. That’s life and we have to move forward, me and the team », said Mbappé.

« I don’t know if they were better than us. We don’t need to belittle them. In my humble opinion, they were superior in both penalty areas. They entered ours once or twice and scored. We went into theirs often and never managed to score. That’s a fact. I don’t like to talk about bad luck. When you’re good, the ball doesn’t hit the post, it goes in. Today, we weren’t good enough, we attackers », he admitted.
