Burkina Faso: What you need to know about the Council of Ministers meeting on 19 February 2025

The Council of Ministers met in Ouagadougou on Wednesday 19 February 2025, under the chairmanship of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Faso. During this meeting, the government discussed and took important decisions. It approved projects, appointed officials and authorised missions abroad.

One of the key points discussed was an agreement between the Burkina Faso government and Horizon Industries to purchase IT equipment. This company, based in Burkina Faso, assembles computers, telephones and other equipment. The government holds 35% of its capital.

This agreement will support local industry, save money through group purchases and improve public administration with modern equipment.

The Council also approved the appointment of several diplomats, including the ambassadors of Algeria and the Dominican Republic.

It also appointed an honorary consul in the United States to better assist Burkinabe living in Houston.

Lastly, a report on the 2024/2025 cotton harvest was presented, in which the yield per hectare increased, which is a positive point, although production itself was down 26% on the previous year.
