Burkina Faso: Exchange between H.E. Olivia ROUAMBA and the ICRC Vice-President

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabè Abroad, H.E. Mrs Olivia ROUAMBA, met with the Vice-President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Mr Gilles CARBONNIER came to reaffirm the commitment of the ICRC with the Burkinabè Red Cross in providing humanitarian assistance to the populations who are victims not only of armed violence but also of problems linked to climate change in Burkina Faso.

“We appreciate this constructive collaboration with the Burkinabe government and have increased the budget and level of humanitarian investment in Burkina Faso in view of the difficult context it is experiencing,” said the ICRC vice-president.

The head of Burkina Faso’s diplomacy thanked the ICRC for the multiple support it has given to the government’s efforts in essential sectors such as health, agriculture, livestock and access to water.

During the discussions, the principles of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions were also discussed. On this subject, the two parties were unanimous: “civilians and their property must be protected in situations of violence”.
