Togo: In the spotlight for fiscal transparency in Africa

Togo is in the spotlight this week on the African continent for fiscal transparency. Since Monday, June 3, Lomé has been hosting the 15th meeting of the Africa Initiative, an international program promoting good fiscal practices founded in 2014.

This major event, organized jointly by the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, the Togolese Revenue Office (OTR), and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, brings together over a hundred participants from 40 countries and about ten international organizations.

This high-level meeting is a unique opportunity for African countries to share their experiences and strengthen their cooperation in fiscal transparency. The discussions cover various crucial topics such as the automatic exchange of information, the fight against tax evasion, and the improvement of national tax systems.

For Togo, hosting this meeting demonstrates its commitment to promoting exemplary fiscal governance and playing a leading role in continental initiatives for transparency. The country hopes to inspire other African nations to adopt similar practices to improve tax revenue collection and combat illicit financial flows.

The presence of international experts and representatives from numerous organizations underscores the importance given to this initiative and the growing interest in fiscal transparency issues on the African continent. By hosting this meeting, Togo reinforces its position on the international stage as a key player in promoting fiscal standards and international cooperation.
