Burkina Faso/Security & Development: Burkinabe government can count on Russian partner

The government of Burkina Faso can always count on the support of its strategic partner, Russia, for the realization of its socio-economic development projects. Vladimir Putin’s country also remains committed to its security cooperation, fighting terrorism in Faso and reclaiming the entirety of the national territory.

This was conveyed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov following his meeting with Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré. On his first official visit to Burkinabe soil, the Russian Foreign Minister reaffirmed on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, before the President of Faso, the commitment of his country, the Russian Federation, to support Burkina Faso in its quest for peace, stability, sovereignty, and prosperity.

Regarding agriculture, for example, the Russian Foreign Minister announced his country’s contribution to fertilizer production. This is a boon for the country led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré, which heavily relies on agriculture to ensure its food security. In the health sector, Russia promises its support for the construction of a renowned laboratory capable of detecting infectious diseases.

In terms of security, a priority area in the bilateral cooperation between Burkina Faso and Russia, Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening the capabilities and equipping Burkina Faso’s military forces to enhance their operational capacities. He announced an increase in Russian instructors in Burkina Faso for this purpose.

It should be noted that Burkina Faso and Russia have maintained excellent and dynamic bilateral relations since Captain Ibrahim Traoré came to power. This strategic partner has been of great help to the transitional regime in the fight against terrorism and the reclamation of national territory. Both parties aim to further strengthen this fruitful cooperation for the benefit of their respective peoples.
