Togo/Togo International Film Festival: A new era for Togolese cinema

The National Week of Togolese Cinema (SNCT) has been revamped and is now the International Film Festival of Togo (FIFTO). This name change, announced during a press conference, signifies a new era for the event. The transformation is motivated by recent reforms in the Togolese film sector.

Under the theme “Togolese Cinema: From Industrialization to Profession”, the 8th edition of FIFTO will take place from August 3 to August 10, 2024, in Lomé. This prestigious event will once again bring together cinema and audiovisual enthusiasts and professionals, highlighting the richness and dynamism of Togolese cinema.

Two major innovations mark this edition, with Côte d’Ivoire as the guest of honor. First, two types of competitions will be organized: an international competition for feature films, open to filmmakers worldwide, and a national competition reserved for Togolese filmmakers in the short film category.

Additionally, a new category dedicated to workshop and school films will be introduced, aiming to encourage and promote young talents and educational projects. This initiative reflects FIFTO’s commitment to supporting emerging filmmakers and fostering new voices in the Togolese cinema landscape.

The “FIFTO 2024 village” will be set up at the St. Joseph College in Lomé, a central location that will host various activities. Film screenings will also be organized in several venues in the capital and regional capitals, allowing a wide audience to discover and appreciate the diversity of the presented works.

This 8th edition of FIFTO promises to be an essential rendezvous for celebrating Togolese and international cinema, featuring significant moments and cinematic discoveries.
