DRC: President Félix Tshisekedi officially launches national service trains

President Félix Tshisekedi inaugurated the launch of National Service (SN) trains this Thursday, marking a significant step forward for the agricultural economy and social reintegration in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The new rolling stock includes 30 enclosed wagons, 15 open wagons, 10 tankers, and 2 locomotives.

According to Major General Jean-Pierre Kasongo, commander of the National Service, these trains address the numerous challenges of evacuating and delivering necessary inputs and tools. The SN produced 16.000 tons of maize for the 2023-2024 season, demonstrating the importance of this logistical support in maximizing the distribution of agricultural production.

Major General Kasongo also emphasized that over 4.000 previously idle youths were trained at the Kanyama Kasese center. These young individuals are now contributing across the Republic in construction and agriculture. This initiative goes beyond simple agricultural production; it aims to provide training and employment opportunities for youths, thereby promoting their social and professional reintegration.

The deployment of these National Service trains represents a notable advancement for the DRC. It significantly enhances agricultural logistics, ensuring that products like maize can reach consumer markets more efficiently. At the same time, the initiative supports youth training and employment, transforming lives and strengthening social cohesion.
