Africa: Date of AFCON 2025 now known

The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced today in Cairo the highly anticipated dates for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 and the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2024, both to be held in Morocco.

According to the information released, the TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 will kick off with an opening match on Sunday, December 21, 2025, and will culminate with the final scheduled for Sunday, January 18, 2026.

Simultaneously, the Committee also unveiled the dates for the TotalEnergies Women’s AFCON 2024, marking a significant moment for women’s football in Africa, which is gaining increasing popularity. This competition will start on Saturday, July 5, 2025, and will conclude with the final on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his enthusiasm: “I am confident that the TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 will be a huge success, possibly the best in the history of this competition. The recent progress of women’s football in Africa is also very promising, and we anticipate a remarkable Women’s AFCON 2024 in Morocco. The announcement of the dates took time due to complex and delicate discussions with various stakeholders, taking into account numerous international and national calendars. CAF is committed to promoting and protecting the interests of African players in international clubs, and to establishing beneficial relationships with the ECA, UEFA, other football confederations, and FIFA. We will continue our efforts to position African football among the best on the global stage”.

Dr. Motsepe also thanked King Mohammed VI, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and its president, Fouzi Lekjaa, as well as the government and people of Morocco for their support in organizing these prestigious events.
