Burkina Faso / Jonathan Pitroipa: A new venture within the Burkinabe Football Federation

The former Burkinabe international Jonathan Pitroipa, a living legend of Burkinabe football with 71 national team caps, has decided to embark on a new adventure. He plans to run for the presidency of the Burkinabe Football Federation (FBF) in the upcoming federal elections scheduled for August 31, 2024. This announcement follows the decision of the outgoing president, Lazare Bansé, not to seek re-election.

According to Sidwaya Sport, Pitroipa, who was named the best player of the 2013 CAN, is ready to take on this challenge. In an interview in June 2023, he hinted at the possibility of his candidacy, emphasizing his desire to stay in the football world to share his experience.

Pitroipa has also criticized the poor organization of the national championship by the federation, highlighting a lack of progress and attractiveness: “We can do better because today, when you look at [the championship], there is not much progress in its organization. I think we need the right people in strategic positions to bring their experience and vision. Today, what we need to do is work on attractiveness. The championship is not attractive. If we want to attract the public, we need a clear vision of what we want to achieve”.

Inspired by the example of Samuel Eto’o in Cameroon, Pitroipa aims to bring order within the FBF and revitalize Burkinabe football. With his experience and vision, he hopes to restore the national championship’s appeal and organization.
