Burkina Faso: Plan International and the Government of Burkina Faso join forces for inclusive and sustainable development

On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, the Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, held an audience with Dr. Ahmed Maiga, Country Director of Plan International, a humanitarian organization that has been supporting Burkinabe communities since 1976. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss ongoing actions, future cooperation prospects, and the organization’s new strategic direction for the coming years.

During the meeting, Dr. Maiga presented Plan International’s 2024 annual report along with its 2025–2027 Country Strategy, which focuses on expanding access to safe, inclusive, and quality education, while promoting youth economic empowerment—particularly in the most vulnerable areas. To achieve these ambitious goals, Plan International is seeking the active support of the Government, especially the involvement of key sectoral stakeholders.

The Prime Minister praised Plan International’s long-standing commitment in Burkina Faso over nearly five decades and emphasized the importance of aligning humanitarian initiatives with national priorities. He underlined the need for technical and financial partners to ensure their interventions are in harmony with the development policies defined by the State.

“It’s essential to ensure that aid directly benefits communities through well-structured, relevant, and sustainable projects,” Dr. Maiga reiterated, echoing the core message delivered by the Head of Government. The meeting reflects a shared commitment to building a strong partnership between national authorities and humanitarian actors to maximize the impact of interventions for the benefit of children, youth, and the most vulnerable populations.

By strengthening collaboration with grassroots organizations, the Burkinabe government reaffirms its determination to effectively address the country’s social and economic challenges—placing human dignity and sustainable development at the center of its mission.
