DRC / President Félix Tshisekedi’s active diplomacy focuses on win-win partnerships

The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, continues to patiently yet firmly weave his diplomatic web. On Wednesday, April 23, he once again held a videoconference with his Indonesian counterpart, Prabowo Subianto. This second meeting reflects a proactive diplomacy focused on building meaningful, results-oriented alliances.

The two heads of state focused their discussions on key sectors with strategic potential: diplomacy, economy, infrastructure, mining, and agriculture. This broad agenda signals a shared desire to anchor bilateral cooperation in a sustainable and balanced dynamic.

In a gesture underscoring Kinshasa’s growing recognition on the international stage, President Subianto renewed his invitation for H.E. Félix Tshisekedi to undertake a state visit to Indonesia. Expected to take place in the second half of 2025, this visit is set to be a milestone in the consolidation of this evolving partnership.

This dialogue builds on their initial videoconference held on December 14, 2024, shortly after President Subianto’s inauguration. Even then, both leaders expressed a joint ambition to establish a strategic partnership, especially in the environmental field. This axis of cooperation is particularly relevant, as the DRC and Indonesia both play a major role in the preservation of the world’s largest forest basins.

This rapprochement gains further significance in light of both countries’ participation in the 2023 Summit of the Eight Signatories of the Amazon Pact in Brazil. There, they pledged to unite their voices in defending a shared agenda for the protection of tropical forests—the planet’s true lungs.

Through such initiatives, President Félix Tshisekedi demonstrates his vision of positioning the DRC as a key player on the global stage, by fostering balanced partnerships based on mutual respect and complementary interests. His active diplomacy goes beyond words—it’s built through action, strategic dialogue, and the pursuit of mutually beneficial synergies.
