Togo: Lomé boosts support for farmers with historic increase in fertilizer allocation

Under the leadership of President Faure Gnassingbé, the Togolese government continues to place agriculture at the heart of its economic development strategy. In this dynamic, a strong decision has just been announced: a substantial increase in fertilizer allocation for the 2025–2026 farming season, aimed at providing lasting support to small-scale farmers.

The planned fertilizer volume now reaches 85,000 tons, representing a 9% rise compared to the 77,938 tons distributed during the previous campaign. This increase reflects a clear commitment by the Togolese authorities to boost agricultural productivity and support farmers in the face of challenges linked to climate change and global economic fluctuations.

Priority will be given to the most vulnerable regions as well as areas affected by security issues, in a spirit of fairness and national resilience. This targeted approach seeks to strengthen the country’s food security while consolidating the economic stability of rural populations, who are the true driving force of Togo’s socio-economic fabric.

Through this initiative, the government also reaffirms its determination to build stronger local value chains—an essential condition for achieving food self-sufficiency and reducing dependence on imports. This current momentum thus strengthens the efforts made in recent years in terms of agricultural mechanization and modernization of rural infrastructure.
