Mali: Renovation of the Ouezzin Coulibaly stadium/The Malian government aims to make sport a lever for national unity

Under the high patronage of the Head of State, Army General Assimi Goïta, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Abdoul Kassim Fomba, inaugurated the renovated Ouezzin Coulibaly Stadium in Bamako earlier this week. With this modern facility offering 3,086 seats, Mali takes a new step forward, now counting five approved stadiums—and soon seven.

This achievement, the tenth of its kind, reflects the Malian authorities’ strong determination to make sports a driver of unity and national influence.

President Goïta thus reaffirms his commitment to providing the youth with quality infrastructures that meet international standards, in a spirit of sovereignty, pride, and sporting revival.

As a reminder, the stadium was named at Mali’s independence in 1960 by President Modibo Keita in tribute to his “mentor,” his “guide,” and a prominent companion in the struggle for Africa’s independence: Daniel Ouezzin Coulibaly, the first President of the Governing Council of Upper Volta (May 17, 1957 – September 7, 1958).
