Burkina Faso: Strengthening powers and consumer protection at the heart of ARCEP meeting

The Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Posts (ARCEP), as part of its strategy to engage with consumer associations to define certain directions for the electronic communications sectors, is organizing a three-day workshop from July 29 to 31, 2024, with civil society organizations active in the field. The theme of the workshop is “Strengthening Consumer Power and Protection in Electronic Communications and Postal Services: Tools, Challenges, and Perspectives”.

The objective of the meeting is to strengthen the partnership between ARCEP and consumer associations for more equitable and transparent electronic communications for all actors in the ecosystem. During these three days, ARCEP, in collaboration with consumer associations, will define mechanisms to enhance consumer power and protection against the current challenges in the electronic communications and postal sectors and to formulate pertinent recommendations for consumer satisfaction.

Additionally, the workshop will review the recommendations from the previous meeting, present the tools related to consumer protection developed by various actors, and identify challenges associated with consumer protection.

Currently engaged in a quality-oriented approach, ARCEP prioritizes the protection of consumer rights in a constantly evolving sector, aiming to gain the trust of stakeholders in the electronic communications and postal ecosystem.

ARCEP continues to work on modernizing the electronic communications sector, with the goal of creating an environment conducive to innovation and continuous service improvement. Through its regulatory efforts and promotion of competition, ARCEP aims to ensure that Burkinabe citizens have access to high-quality, secure, and affordable communication services.

It plays a vital role in the development of the electronic communications and postal sectors. Thanks to its recent innovations and rigorous regulatory mission, ARCEP significantly contributes to improving services offered to consumers and promoting technological innovation in the country.
