Burkina Faso/Homeland Security: Essential provisions to meet today’s challenges

In a sensitive security context, it is crucial for the transitional authorities in Burkina Faso, led by President Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, to reorganize the security apparatus across the entire national territory for better security and assured protection of the population and their property.

The transitional authorities are not taking any chances with the security of Burkinabe and the national territory. Since taking power, their main focus has been on implementing significant measures and major reforms to effectively address the pressing challenges.

In this effort, the Council of Ministers took a significant step on Wednesday, July 31, by adopting the draft decree determining the territorial areas of competence for the National Police and the National Gendarmerie. Once in effect, this decree will offer several advantages, according to the Deputy Minister in charge of Security, Police Commissioner Mahamadou SANA.

These advantages include the duplication of gendarmerie and police posts, ensuring better coverage of the entire national territory for improved management of security issues and appropriate distribution of responsibilities across the territory.

In the face of security challenges such as terrorism, grand banditry, and other criminal acts, this decree is seen as a solution to safeguard Burkina Faso and its citizens.
