On Friday, October 11, 2024, members of Burkina Faso’s Transitional Legislative Assembly made a significant step towards modernizing public administration by passing a law on the electronic identification of citizens. This initiative, praised by many observers, aims to facilitate Burkinabe citizens’ access to various public and private services while enhancing the security and efficiency of administrative processes.

The new law enables the creation of a digital identification system for all citizens, simplifying the registration of personal information and interactions with government services. With this measure, authorities hope to combat fraud, improve transparency, and strengthen social inclusion by ensuring that every citizen can be easily identified and benefit from state services.

In addition to increasing administrative efficiency, the project aims to make public services more accessible to citizens, particularly in remote areas where such services are often hard to reach. Through electronic identification, Burkinabe citizens will enjoy better protection of their civil rights and smoother management of administrative procedures.

This advancement aligns with the government’s broader goal of modernizing Burkina Faso by integrating digital solutions that meet the country’s current needs, while supporting the development of a more efficient and inclusive administration.
