Niger: President Abdourahamane Tiani launches a vast social housing program to address the housing crisis
Under the leadership of President Abdourahamane Tiani, the Nigerien government has launched an ambitious program aimed at reducing the critical housing shortage. In October 2024, the construction of 1.000 social housing units in the town of Sorey was initiated, marking a decisive step in the fight against the housing deficit in Niger.
This project is part of President Abdourahamane Tiani’s broader vision to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable populations. By facilitating access to decent housing, the government aims to reduce social inequalities and provide citizens with a dignified and secure living environment. Sorey, the town selected for this initiative, will benefit from increased urban development, supporting the region’s growth and addressing the high demand for housing.
The construction of these 1.000 social housing units also aligns with a sustainable development policy. The focus is on environmentally friendly materials and infrastructure tailored to the needs of residents, while remaining affordable. This ambitious project will also create numerous jobs in the construction sector, thereby stimulating the local economy.
Through this initiative, President Abdourahamane Tiani demonstrates his commitment to improving the living conditions of Nigeriens. This social housing program in Sorey is only the first step in a series of reforms aimed at meeting the population’s growing needs, while promoting inclusive and sustainable growth.
