Burkina Faso / Council of Ministers of October 16, 2024: New initiatives for the urban, cultural and industrial development of Faso
During the Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, oversaw the review of several key files for the country’s development, according to Minister of State and government spokesperson, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo.
Among the notable decisions, a decree was adopted to launch the presidential initiative “Faso Mêbo” aimed at addressing the concerns of Burkinabe citizens through infrastructure projects focused on road construction and urban development.
The “Faso Mêbo” initiative is divided into two parts : the creation of road infrastructure by specialized brigades at reduced costs and the improvement of urban spaces through the construction of decent housing, sanitation, and the establishment of public green spaces. Minister Ouédraogo emphasized that these actions reflect the President’s commitment to significantly improving the living conditions of the Burkinabe people.
Additionally, the Council adopted two reports concerning the cultural sector. The first deals with the reorganization of National Artistic Ensembles to professionalize the sector, while the second focuses on a draft bill on the Status of Artists in Burkina Faso. This legislation aims to integrate new digital dynamics into the exploitation of artistic works, thereby modernizing the legal framework for Burkinabe artists.
Finally, two decrees were approved in the fields of industry and commerce. The first creates a joint venture for managing the pharmaceutical technopole in Kokologho, aimed at boosting national pharmaceutical production. The second decree sets harmonized criteria for awarding performance bonuses in public entities, saving approximately 4.2 billion CFA francs, which will be reinvested in social infrastructure.
