Turkey / Fenerbahçe: Ansu Fati in José Mourinho’s sights

Ansu Fati, long considered one of FC Barcelona’s jewels, is going through a tough period since his return from injury in mid-September. After a promising 2022-2023 season, where he scored 10 goals and provided 3 assists in 51 appearances, despite only 14 starts, the Spanish forward is struggling to regain his best form. After being loaned to Brighton last season, he returned to Barça in a substitute role, failing to establish himself.

Since his return to the pitch on September 19 during the match against Monaco, Fati has accumulated only 55 minutes of play. While his lack of playing time can be partially explained by the need to regain his rhythm, the fierce competition within the Barcelona squad seems to undermine his chances of regaining a starting position. His situation is increasingly worrying, and a departure during the winter transfer window is becoming a serious possibility.

According to AS, Fenerbahçe is one of the clubs interested in the young forward. José Mourinho, the current coach of the Turkish club, is particularly eager to strengthen his squad by recruiting Fati as early as January. The idea of a transfer to Istanbul could provide the Spanish international with a new opportunity to relaunch his career, away from the pressure and competition in Barcelona.

For Ansu Fati, who is still young and promising, a change of scenery could be the way to rediscover his best level. It remains to be seen whether Fenerbahçe and Mourinho will be able to convince Barça to let go of one of its former rising stars during the upcoming transfer window.
