The Sahel States Alliance (AES) is strengthening its presence through culture and craftsmanship, with a significant showcase at the 2024 International Handicrafts Fair in Ouagadougou (SIAO). The “AES Village” stand, inaugurated by the ministers of Handicrafts from the three member countries—Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger—symbolizes the unity and cultural cooperation of the AES. This village highlights the artisanal know-how of the Sahel region, gathering a diversity of art objects and textiles that reflect the traditions and creativity of the region’s artisans.

The establishment of the “AES Village” is an initiative praised by the attending ministers. According to Malian Minister Andogoly Guindo, this cultural collaboration is an opportunity for economic development and the promotion of local craftsmanship. With the participation of over 100 Malian artisans, Mali’s commitment underscores the desire to transform culture and craftsmanship into vectors of growth and regional cohesion.

Madame Soufiane Aghaichata Guichene, Niger’s Minister of Handicrafts, also expressed pride in Niger’s participation in the SIAO as a special guest, stating that this event fosters the strengthening of friendship and cooperation among the peoples of the AES. More than 100 Nigerien artisans are showcasing their works, a testament to the diversity and richness of Nigerien craftsmanship within this common space.

Through this event, the AES confirms its commitment to promoting a shared cultural identity, enhancing exchanges and synergy among artisans. Burkinabe Minister Serge Gnaniodem Poda invited the public to discover this wealth at the “AES Village”, which embodies the cultural contribution of the AES to the building of the Sahelian confederation.
