Mali: General Assimi GOÏTA and the AES Chiefs of Staff reaffirm their commitment to regional stability

On Wednesday, November 6, 2024, the President of the Transition, His Excellency General of the Army Assimi GOÏTA, and current President of the Confederation of Sahel States, hosted the Chiefs of Staff of the member countries of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) for a significant meeting.

This gathering, held at the Koulouba Palace, a symbol of regional commitment to security and peace, marks a decisive step in military cooperation between Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger in the fight against terrorism and for the stability of the Sahel.

The meeting follows the validation, by the Chiefs of Staff of the three countries, of a joint action plan for the defense and security pillar, developed by a committee of experts. This action plan, which includes coordinated counterterrorism measures, reflects the three nations’ determination to pool their resources and strengthen their military capabilities in response to the growing insecurity in the region.

Under the leadership of General Assimi GOÏTA, this alliance aims to create a united and resilient front, capable of effectively defending the interests and populations of the Sahel against armed terrorist groups destabilizing the region.

The decision to place this collaboration under the leadership of an experienced military president enhances the credibility and effectiveness of the initiatives taken, while sending a strong message internationally: the Sahel is determined to take control of its future and assert its sovereignty in the face of security threats.
