Morocco: The Mohammed VI Museum celebrates its 10th anniversary
In Rabat, the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is celebrating its tenth anniversary by paying tribute to a decade of exhibitions that have enriched the Moroccan cultural scene.
Since its opening, the museum has hosted more than 35 major exhibitions, showcasing works by world-renowned artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Delacroix, and Giacometti, while also highlighting the talent of Moroccan artists.
“Even in my wildest dreams, I never imagined I would be able to organize exhibitions for such prestigious artists”, says Mehdi Kotbi, President of the National Foundation of Museums. For the occasion, two monumental works by Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos, already exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, embody strength and femininity.
The anniversary also coincides with the exhibition Cobra: A Serpent with Multiple Heads, which highlights the artistic boldness of the post-war period. The Mohammed VI Museum, now a key cultural venue in Rabat, continues to open up to the world, with an upcoming exhibition on Omani art.
