Death of former Moroccan footballer and diplomat Abdelkader Lachheb
In a statement, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) expressed its deep sorrow following the passing of former Lions of the Atlas player and former ambassador, Abdelkader Lachheb.
The former Moroccan international footballer and prominent diplomat, Abdelkader Lachheb, passed away on Sunday at the age of 70 after a long battle with illness, according to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
In the statement, the president of the FRMF, Fouzi Lekjaa, and the members of the federation’s board of directors extended their heartfelt condolences to Lachheb’s family, friends, and the entire Moroccan football community.
Lachheb, a highly respected figure in Moroccan sports, represented the Moroccan national football team several times and played for clubs such as Wydad Casablanca, US Musulmane of Oujda, and Mouloudia Oujda.
Beyond his sporting career, Lachheb served Morocco as an ambassador to Canada, Japan, and Russia.
The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe, also conveyed his deepest condolences to the family of Hassan Akesbi, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, and the entire Moroccan people.
Lachheb’s funeral took place on Sunday, following the Asr prayer, at the Chouhada Cemetery in Casablanca.
