President Félix Tshisekedi assures: "No third term in my vision"...

During a meeting held in Lubumbashi, President Félix Tshisekedi put an end to speculation regarding his political intentions. He reaffirmed that his initiative to amend the Constitution was in no way related to a quest for a potential third term. With four years left in his second and final term, the Congolese leader emphasized his commitment to democratic principles and institutional stability in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Echoing a statement he made in Kisangani three weeks earlier, President Félix Tshisekedi clarified that his desire to revise the Constitution was solely to address the current realities of the country. “There is no question of changing the limitation on presidential terms. I am committed to respecting this fundamental provision”, he stated. “No third term in my vision”, he affirmed before a captivated crowd at Place Moïse Tshombe.

The President explained that the constitutional revision was part of an effort to strengthen institutions and improve their effectiveness. According to him, this reform is crucial to addressing contemporary challenges facing the DRC, such as decentralization, local governance, and electoral transparency.

While defending the need to adapt the Constitution to current challenges, the President called on Congolese citizens to actively participate in this reform process. “Together, we must build a strong and prosperous nation, respecting our laws and democratic values”, he concluded.
