Burkina Faso: Africa Postal Forum, towards a digital transformation of the African postal sector
The 13th edition of the Africa Postal Forum (APoF) was officially launched on December 4, 2024, in Ouagadougou, under the presidency of Dr. Aminata Zerbo/Sabane, Minister of Digital Transition, Posts, and Electronic Communications of Burkina Faso. Co-organized by One Africa and Burkina Faso Post, this edition brings together nearly 200 participants from 25 countries, including experts, postal directors general, and consumers.
Under the theme “Levers of a Reinvented Postal Industry”, this meeting aims to transform the African postal sector, which has been shaken by the rise of digital technologies. In her opening speech, Mrs. Hind Sidqui, Director General of One Africa, emphasized the need to make the postal service a driver of financial and digital inclusion. She also highlighted the importance of strengthening its role in the socio-economic development of African nations.
Over the course of three days, participants will share their experiences, exchange best practices, and develop strategies to adapt the postal service to digital changes and citizens’ expectations. According to Mrs. Hind, these discussions are expected to lead to concrete resolutions to revitalize the sector.
Dr. Aminata Zerbo/Sabane, for her part, reminded attendees of the postal service’s historical resilience in the face of multiple technological revolutions. She sees this forum as a major opportunity to rethink the postal service and fully harness its potential as a driver of digital inclusion. “The postal service must continue to play a central role in the socio-economic development of our countries,” she stated, calling for innovative solutions to address current challenges.
As a reminder, the Africa Postal Forum is an annual platform for discussing the issues and prospects of the postal sector in Africa. This 13th edition marks a turning point for a modernized African postal service, adapted to the realities of the 21st century.
