Manchester City looking to sign Bruno Guimarães to replace Rodri
Manchester City is actively searching for a replacement for Rodri, who has been sidelined since September with a knee injury. The Spanish midfielder, recently crowned Ballon d’Or 2024, is a key player for the Sky Blues, but his absence has left a significant gap in the team. Since his injury, City has struggled, suffering several defeats and underperforming in the Premier League.
To address this issue, Manchester City has reignited interest in a former target: Bruno Guimarães. The 27-year-old Brazilian midfielder from Newcastle has been closely monitored by City for several months. Despite being under contract until 2028, Guimarães has spoken positively about his relationship with Guardiola, who appreciates his playing style, particularly his ball recovery skills and dominance in duels.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City has made Guimarães their top priority for the upcoming January transfer window. However, securing his signature will not be easy, as Newcastle has set a release clause of €100 million for the player. This hefty price tag could prove to be a challenge, but it may also benefit Olympique Lyonnais, which holds a percentage of any future sale profit.
With this target in mind, Manchester City hopes to strengthen their midfield and fill the void left by Rodri as early as January.
