Burkina Faso – Russia: When the two States strengthen their cooperation in the field of labor and employment
During an official visit to Russia, the Minister of State for Public Service, Labor, and Social Protection of Burkina Faso, Bassolma Bazié, met with officials from the Federal Service for Labor and Employment of Russia (ROSTROUD) in Moscow on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. The purpose of the meeting was to review progress on the work started under an agreement on labor inspection and to explore further opportunities for cooperation.
Since 2023, Burkina Faso and Russia have been engaged in discussions regarding a convention aimed at strengthening collaboration between their labor inspection bodies. Areas of cooperation include the sharing of best practices, study trips, and training for Burkinabe labor inspectors. As part of this, it was agreed that missions will be organized in both countries to improve understanding of local realities.
A major aspect of this cooperation is the training of 30 Burkinabe labor inspectors in Russia, scheduled for September 2025. Additionally, the discussions also covered the establishment of an agreement to facilitate the integration of Burkinabe migrants into various sectors in Russia. In this regard, the Russian side invited Burkina Faso to deepen discussions in order to finalize this agreement by 2025.
In line with strengthening bilateral ties, the Burkinabe Ambassador to Russia suggested the lifting of visa requirements between the two countries to further facilitate exchanges. This initiative could significantly boost economic and social cooperation. Furthermore, Russia has offered 20 spots for the Burkinabe Ministry of Public Service for Russian language training, promoting better communication and integration within this partnership.
Minister Bassolma Bazié expressed his determination to implement these initiatives for the benefit of Burkina Faso’s youth and to further strengthen relations with Russia. It is worth noting that ROSTROUD has already signed 19 similar agreements with other countries, showcasing its expertise in the field of labor and employment.
