Niger: Authorities deny rumors of deadly terrorist attacks in Téra
In a statement broadcast on national television on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, the Nigerien authorities firmly denied circulating rumors on social media about alleged terrorist attacks in the Téra region. These rumors claimed the deaths of 43 soldiers last week, and 91 soldiers and 47 civilians this week.
“The highest authorities of the country firmly reject these false claims, spread through unofficial channels by traitors with the intent to harm”, the official statement declared. These reports were described as completely unfounded and part of a disinformation campaign orchestrated by adversaries aiming to undermine the morale of the troops and divide the population.
The Nigerien government reassured the public, emphasizing that these malicious actions would not affect the unity and resilience of the people. “The Nigerien people are and will remain united, solidary, and determined to thwart all attempts at destabilization”, the statement added.
Authorities also reaffirmed their commitment to transparency, pledging to provide reliable and accurate information. They called on citizens to exercise caution and avoid sharing unverified in formation from questionable sources.
The statement highlighted the crucial role of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), praising their courage and dedication in defending the nation and protecting the population.
