Mykhailo Mudryk faces doping allegations after Positive test: A potential career-ending suspension
Mykhailo Mudryk, the winger for Chelsea and the Ukrainian national team, is at the center of controversy following reports of a positive doping test. Ukrainian media outlets, including Tribuna and UA-Football, revealed that the 22-year-old was tested positive for a banned substance.
The specific substance has not been disclosed, and the results of the B sample are still pending to confirm or disprove the initial findings. This comes at a time when Mudryk, who joined Chelsea in January 2023 for €70 million, was starting to show improvement after a challenging first season.
Nicknamed the “Ukrainian Neymar”, Mudryk struggled during his early months at Chelsea, failing to score in 17 appearances. However, in the 2023-24 season, he began to regain form, scoring 7 goals and providing 2 assists in 41 appearances. Despite intense competition, he also contributed 3 goals and 4 assists in 13 matches this season.
If the suspension is confirmed, Mudryk could face a lengthy ban of up to 4 years, similar to the sanction initially handed to Paul Pogba. This would significantly impact his career, both at the club and international level.
