Burkina Faso: Moussa Diallo receives the rank of General and takes over the reins of the Armed Forces General Staff
On Friday, December 20, 2024, the President of Faso and Supreme Commander of the National Armed Forces, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, presided over a solemn ceremony marking the official promotion of Colonel Moussa Diallo to the rank of Brigadier General, as he was appointed Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces.
In a statement filled with solemnity, the President declared, “Brigadier General Moussa Diallo, I present to you the insignia of your rank” , before proceeding with the handover of the epaulettes and the beret of General to the newly promoted officer. After receiving his insignia, Brigadier General Moussa Diallo expressed his deep gratitude to the Head of State for this mark of trust. “This rank, beyond being a significant milestone in my military career, is a symbol of the trust that the Supreme Commander of the National Armed Forces and my hierarchy have placed in me. I fully understand its importance and significance”, he said humbly.
The new Chief of General Staff reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the numerous security challenges facing Burkina Faso. He promised to lead with wisdom, fairness, courage, and loyalty, while staying true to the mission entrusted to him. Moussa Diallo’s promotion to Brigadier General was officially announced by presidential decree on December 17, 2024. Two days later, on December 19, he was appointed Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces. This dual honor crowns an exemplary military career and highlights the renewed confidence of the country’s highest authorities in his leadership abilities.
This ceremony symbolizes a key moment for the Burkinabe Armed Forces, which are facing complex security challenges.
