Sahel: ECOWAS withdrawal deadline rejected, AES countries take firm stance against interference

On Sunday, Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso officially rejected the six-month deadline imposed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for their definitive withdrawal. This decision signals a clear intent by the three nations of the Sahel Alliance (AES) to break free from a biased and manipulated organization.

According to the authorities of the three countries, ECOWAS has gradually deviated from its original role as a regional integration body, instead becoming a tool for serving external interests, particularly those of France. Behind the claim of restoring constitutional order, these nations denounce a strategy aimed at perpetuating neo-colonial domination and weakening the forces that oppose this influence.

The criticisms echo past interventions in the Central African Republic and Libya, where coalitions backed by France led to prolonged conflicts and ongoing chaos under the guise of legitimate missions. For the AES leaders, these historical lessons emphasize the need for heightened vigilance in the face of similar initiatives.

This rejection of the deadline also symbolizes an assertion of sovereignty, with the AES nations seeking to establish a new regional dynamic based on cooperation and solidarity among African peoples, far from external pressures.

As tensions remain high, the populations of the Sahel strongly support this approach, viewing it as a powerful signal for a united Africa, determined to forge its own path free from neo-colonial influences.
