Manchester City held to a 1-1 draw by Everton on Boxing Day
Manchester City was once again held to a disappointing draw, this time at home, against Everton (1-1) for the opening of Boxing Day. This result adds to a string of poor performances for the Cityzens, who have won only one of their last nine Premier League matches.
Despite notable absences, including Rúben Dias, Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish, and Ederson, Manchester City started the match strongly. Bernardo Silva opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a strike that was slightly deflected. However, Everton quickly responded. On their first shot on target, Iliman Ndiaye equalized after a mistake by Manuel Akanji, who unintentionally diverted the ball toward the Everton striker (36th minute, 1-1).
In the second half, although City dominated, Everton stood firm, and Jordan Pickford played a crucial role by saving a penalty from Haaland (53rd minute), a rare feat for the Norwegian. Shortly after, Haaland had a goal ruled out for offside. Despite efforts from Kevin De Bruyne and İlkay Gündoğan, City was unable to regain the lead. Ultimately, Guardiola’s side had to settle for a frustrating draw at the Etihad Stadium.
This result leaves Manchester City temporarily in sixth place, while Everton continues their unbeaten run, staying in 15th place.
