Togo: President Faure Gnassingbé’s commitment to his country’s security
In the face of security threats in West Africa, President Faure Gnassingbé and his government have shown their determination to protect Togo’s territory and citizens. On January 10, the government took a decisive step by adopting a draft law aimed at modernizing the national intelligence framework. This strategic reform, which is subject to parliamentary approval, seeks to establish effective coordination of intelligence services while respecting the rights and freedoms of citizens.
The proposed law includes major innovations, such as the creation of a delegate position to coordinate intelligence activities, as well as a dual control mechanism, both internal and parliamentary. This ambitious framework addresses emerging cross-border threats, particularly those related to information and communication technologies (ICTs), ensuring greater transparency and increased effectiveness in security operations.
By modernizing its intelligence system, Togo reaffirms its commitment to guaranteeing the safety of its citizens while strengthening the rule of law.
