In a spirit of solidarity and patriotism, the 54th and 56th Combined Arms Battalions of N’Gourti, located in the Diffa region, demonstrated their commitment to public health by voluntarily donating blood to the local health district on Wednesday, January 15, 2024.

According to the Prefect of the N’Gourti department, Captain Issoufou Koraou, this initiative is part of the national mobilization to improve maternal and perinatal health in Niger. He praised this action by the Nigerien Armed Forces (FAN) as a new proof of their sense of duty toward the civilian population.

“In addition to their primary mission of defending the territory and protecting citizens, these soldiers wanted to contribute to preserving life, especially in a context where the need for blood products is critical”, Captain Koraou said. This humanitarian gesture reflects the complementarity between national defense and civic involvement.

The Prefect expressed his deep gratitude to the military for this act of generosity, highlighting that it is a concrete demonstration of their commitment to the nation. He also conveyed the thanks of the highest authorities of the country, including the President of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP), Brigadier General Abdourahamane Tiani, and Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine.

For his part, the head of the N’Gourti health district praised the initiative, noting that these blood donations will strengthen local capacities, particularly in managing emergencies related to maternity and prenatal care.

This symbolic action by the FAN goes beyond their military responsibilities, reminding everyone of their commitment to the well-being of the Nigerien people. Through this gesture, the armed forces set an example of patriotism and solidarity that inspires and strengthens the bond between the military and the population.
