Burkina Faso: Diplomatic dynamism belies disinformation campaigns by some French media
Contrary to the alarmist claims spread by some French media about the isolation of Burkina Faso, the reality on the ground reflects a very different dynamic. On January 20, 2025, Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, Erwin De Wandel, for an audience. This meeting, focused on strengthening bilateral relations, reflects the vitality of Burkina Faso’s diplomatic exchanges, which are embedded in fruitful cooperation with its international partners.
During the meeting, both parties explored various aspects of their partnership, particularly in the cultural and strategic sectors. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the sovereign vision promoted by President Ibrahim Traoré, calling for relationships based on mutual respect and shared values. For his part, the Belgian ambassador expressed his country’s commitment to continuing and intensifying cooperation in line with the priorities outlined in the Burkina Faso Government’s General Policy Declaration.
This constructive dialogue highlights the contrast between the perception projected by certain French media and the reality of on-the-ground exchanges. With a cooperation program of 22 billion CFA francs signed in 2024 and active collaboration through the Enabel agency, Burkina Faso continues to strengthen its international partnerships, thereby asserting its place on the global diplomatic stage.
