Burkina Faso: Hydrocarbon depot inaugurated, the country moves towards energy sovereignty
Burkina Faso is gradually moving towards its independence and self-sufficiency in hydrocarbons. The head of government, Mr. Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel OUÉDRAOGO, inaugurated a petroleum product depot of the National Burkinabe Oil Company (SONABHY) on Friday, January 24, in the commune of Péni, located in the Hauts-Bassins region.
This is yet another site in the country aimed at bringing these essential products closer to the population. Indeed, the Burkinabe government, under the leadership of President Ibrahim TRAORE, has committed to a policy of hydrocarbon supply to improve accessibility and reduce transportation costs. This is why more petroleum storage sites are being developed.
This new site, with a total capacity of 104.000 m³, is timely and will help meet the growing needs of the population for hydrocarbons. According to the Prime Minister, the creation of these petroleum depots aims to support the country’s economic and social development and ensure Burkina Faso’s energy security. This will help protect the population from shortages during crises and accelerate national development.
According to reports, the operation of this modern infrastructure will create 1.100 jobs, including 100 direct jobs for the local population. Additionally, it is expected to increase annual tax revenues and enable SONABHY to develop community infrastructure.
