On Monday, January 27, the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, met with a delegation of foreign ministers from the AES Confederation. This delegation, which was in Ouagadougou for a ministerial meeting following the experts’ meeting, focused on the issue of AES-ECOWAS relations. They visited the President to provide a report on the work that had been done.

According to the spokesperson for the delegation, Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Mr. Abdoulaye Diop, it was necessary to come together in order to better defend the interests of the Sahelian peoples and lay the foundation for a potential future collaboration with the West African organization, ECOWAS, after their separation. This decision is based on the fact that the countries share common peoples and have historical ties in several areas of mutual interest.

The conclusions of these discussions, which now await validation from the Heads of State of the Confederation, were presented to President Ibrahim TRAORE of Burkina Faso, who hosted the meeting, in order to gather his guidance and advice. The ministers, through their spokesperson, expressed their satisfaction with the determination of the Burkinabe head of state, which aligns with the ambitions of his peers to continue the fight for the liberation, sovereignty, and prosperity of the member countries for the benefit of their populations.

It is important to note that January 28 marks one year since Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger jointly announced their decision to leave ECOWAS. According to the West African organization’s regulations, these countries officially ceased to be members of ECOWAS as of this date. On the AES side, measures are being taken to facilitate not only the integration of the peoples but also effective collaboration between entities to ensure harmonious coexistence.
