On Thursday, February 6, 2025, Burkinabe Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo officially opened the traditional annual Government/Union meeting in Ouagadougou. This marks the first such meeting since 2021. Held at the Baoghin Building, the two-day meeting is aimed at reviewing the implementation of government commitments made in the 2015, 2016, and 2021 grievance notebooks, as well as addressing union concerns from 2022.
El Hadj Inoussa Nana, President of the Union Action Syndicate (UAS), commended the government’s security efforts, particularly the reconquest of areas affected by insecurity. However, he pointed out that several issues remain unresolved, including the arbitrary dismissal of Moussa Diallo, General Secretary of the CGTB, the rising cost of living, and the implementation of universal health insurance. He also emphasized the importance of individual freedoms in improving governance.
In his response, the Prime Minister highlighted progress made through social dialogue, citing the regularization of the status of workers at the Ouagadougou City Hall and the restoration of careers for former staff of the popular daycare. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the proposals from the meeting with particular attention. Amid challenging security conditions, this meeting symbolizes the importance of dialogue in overcoming development challenges and improving working conditions in Burkina Faso.
