Mali: The Armed Forces reiterate their unwavering support for Transition President Assimi GOÏTA

On Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the Koulouba Palace, the Defense and Security Forces (FAMa) presented their New Year’s greetings to the President of the Transition, Army General Assimi GOÏTA, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. This solemn ceremony, attended by the highest authorities of the country, served as an opportunity for the FAMa to reaffirm their unwavering commitment alongside the Head of State in the ongoing battle against terrorism and to uphold the sovereignty of Mali. The President of the Transition emphasized the importance of cohesion and unity within the armed forces while highlighting efforts made to strengthen their operational capabilities.
With progress made in equipment, training, and restructuring, the FAMa remain determined to defend the nation’s territorial integrity and ensure the safety of the population. Major General Oumar DIARRA, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, praised the achievements of 2024 and assured that the Malian forces are now better prepared and more autonomous. He reaffirmed the armed forces’ commitment to relentlessly continue the fight against security threats, particularly through strengthened cooperation with member states of the Sahel Confederation.
Paying tribute to the soldiers who fell in the line of duty, President Assimi GOÏTA reiterated the nation’s support for the bereaved families and the wounded. He urged the FAMa to maintain their commitment and persist in the victorious momentum that has been started. “The year 2025 must be the year of continuity and consolidation of military successes”, he declared, reaffirming his commitment to equip the army with the necessary resources to meet the challenges ahead and guarantee Mali’s sovereignty.
