Togo: Promoting gender equality at the heart of government reforms

0

Promoting gender equality remains a priority for the government under President Faure Gnassingbé in Togo. With the introduction of the Gender-Sensitive Budget Document (DBSG) in 2024, a major reform aimed at integrating gender equality into public finance management, the initiative is undergoing a comprehensive review for 2025. This effort, overseen by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, demonstrates the country’s commitment to strengthening inclusion and equity in budget governance.

For twelve days, until February 11, experts and stakeholders will review and finalize the DBSG to ensure better consideration of gender-related issues in the allocation of public resources. This improvement process reflects the government’s intention to refine its gender integration mechanisms and gradually expand the initiative to all public institutions. Currently, around ten ministries and agencies benefit from this innovative approach, with the ambition to standardize it across all state structures.

Through this reform, Togo strengthens its position in favor of gender equality, demonstrating that public policies can be effective tools for addressing inequalities and fostering inclusive development. The continuous improvement of the DBSG thus marks a further step in the realization of the government’s commitments to equity and social justice.
