On February 23, 2025, the Muslim community of Pouytenga, Burkina Faso, officially launched the construction of a Medical Center with a Surgical Unit (CMA), a major project estimated at 2.4 billion CFA francs. The first stone of this facility was laid by Dr. Ousmane Bougouma, president of the Transitional Legislative Assembly, marking the beginning of an initiative aimed at providing the locality with a modern and comprehensive healthcare facility.

Located on a 3-hectare plot in Sector 2 of Pouytenga, this future medical center will be equipped with an operating theater, a two-story building, a dispensary, a maternity ward, a laboratory for analyses, a pharmacy, and a space dedicated to mental health. The project also includes a morgue, a laundry, housing for medical staff, a restaurant, a sports field, and an area reserved for education. These facilities will address the diverse healthcare needs of the population while improving the working conditions of healthcare professionals.

This ambitious project is the result of collective mobilization, primarily funded by voluntary contributions from the community. It aligns perfectly with national priorities aimed at strengthening access to healthcare for all Burkinabè. During the launch ceremony, speakers highlighted the importance of this infrastructure in improving the quality of healthcare services in the region. They also called for continued involvement from all stakeholders to ensure the project’s success.

Dr. Bougouma, along with other dignitaries present, praised the spirit of solidarity and commitment demonstrated by the Pouytenga community. Once completed, this medical center will become a vital pillar for local public health, providing accessible care and reducing costly travel to other cities. It also symbolizes a significant step forward in the fight for equitable access to healthcare, while strengthening the resilience of the healthcare system in the face of current challenges.
